Compound Ignorance — 1

A reminder to me and you. Let's grab a mirror.

Compound ignorance is ignorance masquerading as knowledge. The one afflicted with it is unaware of their ignorance and presents themselves as knowledgeable.

The more you address it, the deeper and worse it becomes. Because the person absorbs the vocabulary and then weaponizes it to fortify their bubble even further.

It's similar to an LLM: outputs nonsense with astonishing confidence and neat grammar.

Saving someone from this is like a lifeguard saving a drowning person. They panic and try to pull you down with them. That reflex needs to be neutralized.

The intellectual equivalent is cornering their reasoning step by step until reality leaves them with a binary choice: either submit to the truth, or react defensively through emotion, insults, or withdrawal.

Another type are those who seem to understand, but over time appear to have only grown deeper into the compound entity. More layers, and thus more computational power needed to dissect. It is exhausting.

It's as messy as a blender with no cover. Imagine cleaning up after someone who keeps using it that way.

The cure?

This disease is caused by superficiality and borrowed knowledge. The remedy is to return to the roots and foundations, again and again, slowly and deliberately.

One who sincerely seeks will eventually realize their mistake.
But one unwilling to walk the painful, patient path of mastery?
That is someone to keep your distance from.
